The town of Jackson was named after the
famous Indian fighter Colonel Alden Jackson. Jackson was a rollicking
and fun town until the 1950’s, when Governor Edmund Brown closed the
last of its bordellos “female boarding houses” and gambling rooms.
Today, the famous Kennedy Mine in Jackson
still stands and is open for tours.
The historic downtown gambling rooms
have been restored and converted into interesting antique and gift
shops and wonderful restaurants serving cuisine from around the world.
