Amador County is a scenic area with a
rich Gold Rush history. You’ll thoroughly enjoy the historic Gold
Rush towns of Jackson, Sutter Creek and Amador City which are still
flourishing today.
The county boasts many museums, galleries, antique shops and historical
sites as well as Indian Grinding Rock State Historical Park and Cultural
Center and a wide range of outdoor recreational activities for all
seasons including Kirkwood Ski Area.
One of Amador’s attractions is Daffodil Hill, which virtually explodes
with thousands of blossoms from mid-March through mid-April, drawing
visitors from around the world; or visit the historical Kennedy and
Sutter Gold Mines as well as the natural Landmark Black Chasm Caverns,
all boasting adventure tours all year round. Follow the original Emigrant
Trail along Highway 88, the most scenic road in America, and see visitor
stage stops and mining towns. Tour and sample wines from more than
20 award winning wineries nestled along the foothills, and see for
yourself why these wines receive world wide acclaim.
To help you plan for your visit, we have divided the Gold Country
into five sections:
Amador City — Amador City offers
a plethora of historic buildings including Amador Whitney Museum.
Jackson — Jackson features historic
downtown gambling rooms which have been restored and converted into
interesting antique and gift shops and wonderful restaurants.
Plymouth — Plymouth is the gateway
to the Shenandoah Valley vineyards east of town.
Sutter Creek — Sutter Creek is
booming with charming antique shops, boutiques, fine art galleries
and wonderful restaurants housed in attractive historic buildings.
Volcano — Volcano is home to the
St. George Hotel and Restaurant, Black Chasm Historic Caverns, Indian
Grinding Rock State Historic Park and world famous Daffodil Hill.
